Yep, I was going to say "single-issue" (niche) blog, too. :-)
Just an idea--maybe a funny category, to keep things on the light-hearted side?
Something like "Best Snark," or "Best Self-Promoter" (that might end up ugly, though).
"Best Blog Quitter?"
You know how people quit blogging and then come back...
Or maybe a Best Post of the Year?
Email me, Kevin; I'll help out again.

So many blogs that have been around are now sponsored and it's difficult for newer blogs to get noticed. How about adding a separate non-sponsored blog category to categories where the top blogs are sponsored?

Ladies and Gentlemen of the 2006 Weblog Awards Committee,
Today is Monday, November 13, 2006, and I'd like to submit a weblog nomination.
First of all, please allow me to introduce Pip Wilson of Emerald Beach, Australia, NSW. Wilson's Blogmanac's is his blog and its URL is located at: http://wilsonsalmanac.blogspot.com
As you will see, he covers much in his collection of historical information and facts in his "Book of Days" which is quality almanac format. It covers most every event in a month, time, year sequence. Collectively, his entries include events indicative in time and history from era to era, decade to decade, past, future, and present. Moreover, Mr Wilson's philanthropic efforts are impressive and commendable in his well thought out posts.
His most recent accomplishments include a novel recently accepted by Penguin publications, additionally, his, "Feel Good Manual," has helped many readers overcome life problmatic surprises with a winner's attitude. He offers this book free online at his blog for any and all who wish to read it.
"Think Terresterally, Act Globally" is Pip Wilson's , "Carpe Diem" practice in his uplifting declaration toward living life as abundantly as was designed for each person's life. He, himself, walks his talk with personal committment, integrity, and healthy pride and is a wonderful role model to all.
It is my hope that you'll consider this nomination for the distinguished weblog awards this year.
Thank you for allowing me to nominate Pip Wilson's Blogmanac. Wilsons Blogmanac is indeed worthy of mention and one that has worked hard to possess, "The Weblog Awards 2006."
Respectfully submitted

Anyone know what I can do to get in touch with NZ Bear about the ecosystem? It's been showing me at #1797 for months now, and I know that's not right. It's updating my traffic stats sporadically, but my ranking...not so much. =D

Don't feel so bad Brian. My DUmmie FUnnies blog doesn't even show up in the Truth Laid Bear Ecosystem despite the fact that we get plenty of Web traffic. I tried to contact them about this but to no avail. Meanwhile the DUmmie FUnnies has the biggest Ping List on the Free Republic forum. Go figure.

There was this wonderful comics blog this year from Japan, MORESUKINE.
http://tokyoblog.livejournal.com
A German artist new to Tokyo invited readers to give him "assignments" and had to complete them, whether he liked to or not. People from all over the globe sent in all kinds of missions, and the next week everybody could read a comic about what happened. He had to sleep in a pod hotel, find biker gangs, dance para-para, eat weird stuff etc.
Well it's LiveJournal and everything, but I love this blog, not only because of the concept, but because of the humor and insight, and the amazing drawings and page layouts on a weekly basis.
Not sure it's the best blog on the globe, but I definitely want to nominate it for a "Best Comics Blog" of 2006.
